Arsenal and Leicester City kicked off the EPL in fantastic fashion with a 4-3 thriller won by an Olivier Giroud header in the 85th minute. Although the goals usually slow down by season’s end, this was a match that serves as a reminder of why the English Premier League is the most exciting in the world, and I am so glad it’s returned. There are a few matchups that catch the casual fan’s attention in this week’s fixtures. Aside from the season opener, Newcastle returns to the top flight as they take on potential title contenders Tottenham. This will be a real test for the Toons who spent the 2016-17 season in the Championship. Also Javier Hernandez will return to Old Trafford for the first time since he departed Manchester United in 2015.
In Spain another edition of El Clasico will crown the Super Cup champions. This is one of those preseason cups that don’t normally have a lot of importance, but a match between the top two clubs in Spain is never a friendly. It will certainly be strange to see a Neymar-less Barcelona.
